How to Use a GameCube Controller with Dolphin. By Christopher Harper – Posted on Nov 13. A real Nintendo GameCube controller; A 64-bit version of Windows; Two open USB 2.0+ ports. The Ultimate Guide To Dolphin Emulator. Using Zadig To Replace The Driver.
Pros: Works without drivers, supports two controllers, easy to use
Cons: None
There probably isn't a huge market for an N64 USB adapter since most people who need one are probably using it for an emulator. It wouldn't make sense to use an N64 controller for other games. However, I'm glad an adapter like this exists because playing N64 games on the PC just doesn't really work with a keyboard/mouse or other types of controllers. There's always an option of getting a third-party USB N64 controller, but I'm always wary of using third-party controllers. Most don't feel right or break quickly. I prefer to use OEM if possible, and this adapter let's me do that. I have a bunch of old N64 controllers lying around, so using an adapter makes sense. It's about the same price as those third-party controllers anyway, so might as well get this and use the real one.
If you're in Windows, then using this is pretty straight-forward. Just plug it in and it should recognize the controller right away. I recommend you go through calibration so the joystick is properly configured. After that, it's just a matter of configuring the controller in whichever emulator you're using. You might need to play with the dead-zone and sensitivity of the joystick in the emulator options to get it close to original feel of the console. This will just require some trial and error until it feels natural.
I highly recommend this adapter if you have an original N64 controller lying around. Don't buy the third-party, no-name USB controllers you see all over Amazon and eBay.

Dolphin is an emulator for two recent Nintendo video game consoles: the GameCube and the Wii. It allows PC gamers to enjoy games for these two consoles in full HD (1080p) with several enhancements: compatibility with all PC controllers, turbo speed, networked multiplayer, and even more!
Dolphin Emulator started solely as a GameCube emulator, focused only on the one console. But, when the Wii was released and it was discovered to have hardware almost identical to its older sibling, Dolphin Emulator naturally evolved into a GameCube and Wii emulator. All of readers are probably familiar with this. However, many people don't know that there is yet another console based on the GameCube, one which Emulator has emulated - the Triforce. An arcade system board developed in a joint partnership between the three powerhouses Namco, Sega, and Nintendo, the Triforce used the GameCube hardware as the heart of many arcade games. Mario Kart GP and GP2, F-Zero AX, along with many other titles headline the Triforce's release library.
Every single GameCube game can at least boot in Dolphin 5.0. Except one. Star Wars: The Clone Wars and its complex way of using the PowerPC Memory Management Unit rendered it unplayable in Dolphin up to this day. But finally as of Dolphin 5.0-540, this challenge has come and gone: It can finally boot every single GameCube game in the official library.
